Smetana - Orchestral Works

Three-disc set of Bedřich Smetana's orchestral works with Vladimir Válek leading the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. Not only does it contain Smetana's orchestral masterpiece Má Vlast plus his three fairly well-known tone poems Richard III, Wallenstein's Campo, and Hakon Jarl, it also contains his nearly completely unknown four-movement Triumph Symphony, his almost totally unknown March for Shakespeare, and the Ceremonial Prelude in C major along with three short orchestral dances, the Georginen, the Louisen, and the Our Lasses Polkas.

Dvořák - Slavonic Dances Op.46 & 72

"Slovanské tance" (The Slavonic Dances), a series of 16 orchestral pieces composed by Antonín Dvořák in 1878 and 1886 and published in two sets. Originally written for piano four hands, the Slavonic Dances were orchestrated at the request of Dvořák's publisher. The pieces, were well received at the time and today are among the composer's most memorable works, occasionally making appearances in popular culture. Lightly scored and charming sound by Czech Philharmonics and Václav Neumann.

Janáček - Lachian Dances, Suite for Strings, Idyll

Well known Leoš Janáček's orchestral works in unforgettable performances by František Jílek and Philharmonia Brno. 1995.Leoš Janáček (1854-1928) was a Czech composer, by Bohemian, Moravian and all Slavic folk music and on these roots created his original style. The greatest compositons are Sinfonietta, Glagolitic Mass, Taras Bulba and operas. Janáček is generally recognised as one of the most inimitable composers.
